This is an even year and the races are Federal this November. (There are some City of Williamsburg races but of course we are James City County not the city).
Besides candidates, there are three important state level constitutional amendments on this November's ballot.
Races and Amendments below:
U.S. Senate
- Bert Mizusawa - Republican
- Mark Warner - Democrat
U.S. House of Representatives - Virginia's 1st Congressional District
- Shannon Taylor - Democrat
- Rob Wittman - Republican
Constitutional Amendments (click here for more detailed information on the ACLU site and here for information on Ballot Brief which appears to be a nonpartisan source):
Amendment 1: Reproductive Freedom: Protect the fundamental right to reproductive freedom.
Amendment 2: Marriage Equality: Guarantee the right to same-sex marriage in Virginia. Click here for more information.
Amendment 3: Right to Vote: Protect the right to vote and automatically restore voting rights after people have served their time in prison and are released.
For the Amendments the current saying is...PLEASE DON'T GUESS, JUST VOTE YES!
Voting early increases voter participation (flexibility around work, travel schedules, etc..), reduces election day congestion, allows for early identification of any issues in the system, is more cost effective for the government (reduces need for higher numbers of resources/people on election day).
Virginia has an unsual and wonderfully long early voting schedule. Go vote when you can!
